As we welcome in a new Government, we take a quick look at what this means for the South-east and ask our Managing Director and some of our Directors’ their views on the Election Result:

Alex Hicken: “The UK needs a clear investment plan, certainty of that investment and a clear timetable for delivering it. The planning system is key to unlocking that, particularly in the South-East. The next 100 days will be pivotal to seeing those manifesto pledges put into action and a decisive mandate from the UK electorate will hopefully enable a new administration in Westminster to deliver on that”

Jonathan Buckwell: “The industry is looking to the new Labour Government to unlock much needed housing and other forms of development to help kick start the economy. One area where we need to see some early action locally is unlocking the vast amount of residential and commercial development which is currently being blocked by water neutrality restrictions in West Sussex”

Matthew Woodhead:    "With Labour having a clear majority there is no reason the promised changes in the planning system and the delivery of much needed homes and infrastructure cannot come forward at pace.  Delivering on these manifesto promises is vital to getting economic growth and delivering the housing we need to address the housing crisis.  I personally very much hope Labour will also address the Market Failure in the Affordable Housing Market we are currently experiencing"

Paul Lulham:  "A decisive majority for Labour ought to mean a period of much-needed stability for infrastructure planning and delivery, rather than the stop-start nature of major capital projects that has come to define the last few years of the Conservative Government. The Starmer administration needs to be bold on transport, energy and water infrastructure, recognising the huge economic benefits that these projects bring through their planning, implementation and operational phases. The UK has begun to lag worryingly behind many other advanced Western economies in these areas and so it is vital that the fight back begins now."
