A residential development of 160 units designed around a central village green at Northwood, to the south west of Herne Bay, has been approved by Canterbury City Council.

Acting on behalf of Stonebond Properties, DHA worked closely with planning officers, and with On Architecture to undertake a Design Review Panel. The aim was to reassure local members and officers that there is a commitment to delivering good design and good practice, while meeting the planning policy including offering 30 per cent as affordable.

The 5.5 hectare site is close to local amenities, including a primary and secondary school, sporting facilities, and is within 1.25km of Herne Bay railway station. The application included a detailed visual impact assessment incorporating public rights of way and a series of landscape buffers.

With no request for the application to be considered at planning committee, permission was granted under delegated powers. The Northwood permission is DHA’s second for Stonebond, having previously secured approval for 78 new homes on the site of a former driving range near Herne Bay.
