On behalf of Tilbury Douglas for the Department for Education, DHA’s education team has recently secured permission for the demolition of a single storey school, ancillary structures and a swimming pool, and the building of a new two-storey replacement school. The school had been closed due to the discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) and asbestos in its construction.
When complete the new school in Rickmansworth, in Three Rivers Council in Herefordshire, will offer replacement teaching facilities, plus a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), parking and alterations to the landscaping.
Given surface water flood risk at the site, the project required a drainage and flood risk assessment, as well as the need to be sensitive to a nearby church due to the proposed increase in height of the new buildings.
