Time-expired buildings can now be replaced with a new three-storey net zero carbon teaching facility at Hemel Hempstead School.
DHA acted on behalf of the project lead, Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out company.
This is a sensitive location opposite the existing 1930s school building, which is considered to be a non-designated heritage asset. Taking this into consideration and to inform the building’s design, DHA undertook pre-application consultation with Council Planning and Conservation Officers. It was also necessary to negotiate with Sport England to ensure suitable mitigation was included to overcome the loss of playing field.
Chichester-based Noviun Architects designed the new school building to provide classrooms, staff offices, DT workshops, and art rooms. The new facility will provide state-of-the-art facilities, and respond to future development requirements, such as Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO).
