As part of the national drive to bring down NHS waiting lists, Maidstone will soon be home to a new Diagnostic Community Facility after DHA successfully secured planning permission for Gallagher Group and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, working alongside HMY Architects and a wider multidisciplinary project team.
When open, the facility at Gallagher’s Hermitage Court, off Hermitage Lane near the M20 in Kent, will be home to two MRI scanners and two CT scanners, relocated from Maidstone Hospital and operated by the NHS, and replacing existing temporary scanners already operating at Hermitage Court. The new facility will enable more complex scans to take place, reducing the need for patients to have to travel to other nearby hospitals. The building’s 30-strong team will have the capacity to deliver 150 patient appointments across a twelve-hour day.
Designed to provide a comfortable and improved patient experience, the building will contain waiting areas, scan preparation and consultation rooms as well as staff areas. The consulting rooms in the building will enable patients to receive their pre-operation assessment in the same visit as their scan, to further reduce appointment waiting times.
