Derby primary school is to undergo a major transformation after DHA secured full planning permission for a replacement teaching block on behalf of leading UK construction company Tilbury Douglas.

The approved scheme for Becket Primary School, which is part of the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme, will see the demolition of the existing primary school buildings and the construction of the brand-new facilities together with a Multi-Use Games Area, a new playing field and a car park.

The permission followed proactive engagement with planning officers from Derby City Council during both the preapplication and planning application stages. All of which resulted in the application being dealt with under delegated powers.

The officer’s report stated: “The development satisfactorily meets the relevant Local Plan policies and overarching guidance in the NPPF, with no significant adverse impacts on the local highway network, visual and residential amenity, access to sports provision, trees and biodiversity, flood risk and site contamination.”

The work will be carried out in phases with the new teaching block in place before any demolition works begin. The architects for the scheme were Leeds-based Watson Batty.
