Kick off for New Hospital
Construction of an £80m private hospital in Maidstone set to create 400 jobs commenced just before Easter. DHA Planning secured planning permission for this new 16,000 sq m private hospital in 2008 and after 4 years of meticulous negotiations with financiers and changes to the proposals construction has finally commenced.
The Kent Institute of Medicine & Science (KIMS) is being built on a seven acre site at Newnham Court, close to the M20, Maidstone. When it opens, in early 2014, it will provide the only Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgery tertiary care beds in Kent. The new hospital will provide private medical care, plus support for the NHS by providing treatments to Kent patients who currently have to travel to London hospitals.
DHA is now working to promote the wider site as part of a Medical Centre of Excellence which will comprise a 40 acre medical campus specifically for medical-related businesses and R&D functions, including a neuro-rehabilitation village, paediatrics unit, women’s health unit and assisted care complex. It is anticipated that these new proposals will create over 2,000 new jobs in the local area.
