Planning helps drive growth for Big Motoring World
As part of its ongoing planned expansion, top independent car retailer Big Motoring World instructed DHA to secure permission for change of use for a former logistics building on a site very close to the junction of the M25 and A10 in Broxbourne.
Located as part of the former Newsprinters facility, the 4-acre site is zoned for ‘B’ class uses in the Local Plan. DHA, working with Big Motoring World’s Chief Executive Peter Waddell and KDP Architects, demonstrated to Broxbourne Borough Council that the proposed use would increase employment, provide high quality training and wide range of jobs, therefore making a positive contribution to the local economy.
DHA’s transport team also demonstrated the development would not have any significant impact on the operation of the existing road network. As a consequence of these factors combined with Big Motoring World’s track record of recruiting locally, training partnerships with local colleges and internal promotions, the proposal was unanimously supported by the Council’s Planning Committee.
Peter and the Big Motoring World team worked tirelessly over Christmas to ensure the new facility was open for business with over 50 new employees already in post.
Big Motoring World is already a Kent based success story, but with the opening of the Broxbourne site, the opening of a new site in Stratford London, and a newly refurbished 170,000ft2 vehicle repair, servicing, MOT and spray-shop facility at Morley Way Peterborough, and with over 500 staff, it is now looking to continue to take its business model north of London with further facilities in the pipeline.
