Extension is priority for Faversham school
Abbey School in Faversham can now replace an existing teaching block after planning permission was secured from Swale Borough Council.
The school, a 7-form entry non-selective secondary, has a capacity of 1,226 pupils, 40% of which have Special Education Needs and integrated within the school rated Good by Ofsted.
The condition of the existing teaching block was deemed unviable to meet a 15-year lifespan test. DHA was tasked with securing planning and Canterbury-based Clague Architects brought forward a detailed design for the scheme, which is funded via the Department for Education’s ‘Priority School Building Programme’.
Located separately to the existing teaching block, the replacement space will be two storeys high and once completed, the pupils will transfer over and demolition can get under way on the former building.
