Housing Need over AONB
Following a four day Public Inquiry, permission has been secured for 62 new homes in Hawkhurst on behalf of Countryside Properties PLC.
DHA provided Expert Witnesses at the Inquiry for both the planning and transport cases after Members initially refused consent, in spite of the scheme receiving support from Officers at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.
The Inspector accepted DHA's case that local housing shortfall meant that the opportunity to deliver homes on a sustainable site was tantamount to ‘exceptional circumstances’ and DHA argued that this justified development within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, particularly as the Council was unable to demonstrate a five year land supply.
The approved developments will make a high quality addition to the village of Hawkhurst as well as delivering 35% of the homes as affordable units. Furthermore, developer contributions will fund improve bus services from Hawkhurst to Staplehurst, Cranbrook, Maidstone and Sandhurst in the early mornings and early evenings and will fund improved local library stock.
