Royal Star Approval
DHA secured planning and listed building consent to convert the top floors of the historic Royal Star Arcade in Maidstone to create 8 apartments.
The Grade II listed building in the heart of Maidstone town centre was originally built as a hotel, with parts of the building dating back to the 16th century. The ground floor was converted and extended in the 1980s to create a popular shopping arcade, but the upper floors of the historic part of the building are largely vacant and in need of repair.
The plans, which were approved following discussions with Maidstone Borough Council's Conservation Officer, will enable repairs to the building and will bring the upper floors back to life, converting under-used space to provide much-needed housing. Improvements will also be made to the newer part of the shopping centre to enhance its appearance and to make it more functional and welcoming.
