Designing for Dementia
If there was ever a case to illustrate how society’s needs and green belt policy can conflict, dha hold the Salts farm project up as an example.
Salts Farm on the edge of Longfield is a derelict coach and oil depot but is situated in the green belt. Separated only by a steep wooded bank is the Russell Court Nursing Home, which has taken the initiative to propose a specialist dementia care home on the site. The proposal is in response to overwhelming demographic and health sector evidence of the need for dementia care both at very local and district levels. The 50 bed home has, following extensive evidence and negotiation, been accepted by Sevenoaks District Council as a Very Special Circumstances green belt case where the national presumption against development can be set aside.
