Work can get under way on the partial demolition and rebuilding of Wrotham Secondary School after DHA secured planning permission for the £34.5m project, which sits in the Green Belt and adjacent to a National Landscape.

The project, undertaken on behalf of BAM Construction Ltd with additional funding from Kent County Council, will enable the school’s expansion, with the roll rising from 800 to 845 pupils when the work is completed in September 2025.

Described as being in ‘poor condition’, DHA successfully argued the planning case for its rebuilding and the siting of two replacement classrooms, plus associated car parking and landscaping, in conjunction with KSS, the award-winning Sevenoaks and London-based architectural practice.

Having secured support from Wrotham Parish Council, DHA’s planners and highways team worked closely with Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s officers, through a Planning Performance Agreement, with the decision finally taken under delegated powers.
