Creating a new home and enabling Petanque players to continue playing on the piste (technical term for a boules or petanque playing area) was one of DHA’s more left field planning applications this year.

The former White House Pub on Heath Road, West Farleigh had closed in 2021. It was not viable for the new owner to continue running as a public house and plans came forward to replace the former public house with a four-bedroom house. As part of the application, a community-led focus was central to the proposals, with the petanque club redevelopment guaranteeing the clubs future.

Recognising that the White House Petanque Club has been a key part of the community for more than 30 years, DHA incorporated the creation of two new petanque pistes and the erection of a new clubhouse/café into the proposals. This important community hub will be able to carry on for many years thanks to this development.

With growing demand for staycationing in the Garden of England, the owner also had plans to create four two-bedroom holiday lodges on the 0.7 hectare site.

DHA also advised on amendments to existing access with associated landscaping, infrastructure, and minor public right of way diversion.
