Permission has been granted to demolish Pengelly House at Bethany School in Goudhurst, replacing it with a contemporary, state-of-the-art, three-story boarding house for up to 50 pupils, alongside associated facilities, accommodation for the housemaster and deputy housemaster, as well as parking and landscaping.

The site is considered to be within open countryside outside the Limits to Built Development. The majority of the school grounds also fall within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
(AONB). Despite this, the application gained support from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.
