They also resolved to grant outline permission for residential redevelopment of the existing County Central Library site at Springfield, Maidstone, which will help to fund the new library scheme.
DHA Planning together with Bouygues UK Ltd. and Kent County Council worked with the Council to secure the permissions, which comprise a new County Archive Centre and a new central lending library for Maidstone. 60 residential homes and 57 extra care residential units will be developed at the James Whatman Way site and 114 residential units and a 200 sq m community facility will be developed at the Springfield site.
DHA Planning was involved in negotiations with the Council from the pre-application stage through to the Planning Committee Meeting, ensuring that any issues that arose were addressed prior to determination.
Particular issues that arose included access to the new Library and Archive Centre, the level of parking provision at both sites, and the impact of the developments on nearby listed buildings and landscaping. DHA were involved in negotiations with the LPA, Kent Highways Service and English Heritage to address matters raised by these parties.
