Kemsley Paper Mill
dha were appointed to prepare and submit a planning application to seek permission for a scheme at Kemsley Paper Mill on behalf of St Regis Paper Company. The main aim of the scheme was to create a new open bale store to receive raw material brought to the mill on the site of an existing office block, together with a number of large silos and an open air conveyor.
dha advised on the implications of various aspects of the scheme from an early stage in the design process. Whilst the site has a long established industrial use as a paper mill it lies close to residential areas and open areas of landscape importance. One area of the site proposed for the open storage yard contained a World War 2 air raid shelter which was to be removed as part of the proposals.
The application was supported by a full planning statement and Design and Access Statement. In addition to producing these dha also undertook detailed assessments of the landscape and visual impact of the scheme. Following submission we successfully negotiated with the Council to deal with any issues raised by consultees and following the securing of planning permission managed the discharge of planning conditions, included work to appoint a suitable archaeologist to survey and monitor the site as required.
dha have also advised on whether planning permission would be required for a number of other minor schemes at the site and secured written confirmation from the LPA for those projects which could be undertaken using permitted development rights.
