The care facility will provide accommodation for elderly and frail hospital patients who are not yet well enough to return home, as well as providing general nursing, dementia and respite care.
Outline planning permission for the site, originally granted in 2014, has been successfully extended for a further 10 years to allow the campus to be fully developed. Construction is currently underway on the Cygnet hospital building, providing adult Mental Health inpatient care, for which DHA secured permission last year.
Infrastructure is already in place for the site, which is located at junction 7 of the M20 and next to the Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery.
The Kent Medical Campus forms a major component of the Council’s employment strategy in its forthcoming Local Plan. The Government has also designated the site as part of the North Kent Enterprise Zone, where incentives are given to business occupiers to encourage innovation and entrepreneurial growth.
