Bell Hotel – Leigh on Sea
DHA were appointed to act on behalf of Southend on Sea Borough Council at a Public Inquiry to defend their decision to refuse two schemes for flatted development on the sea front at Leigh on Sea. The site sits in the Conservation Area and included the historic Bell Hotel building. Proposals were deemed to be to be of an inappropriate scale, failing to take account of historic land use patterns, the built form context and important views of the estuary as a key feature of the conservation area. DHA produced a full Proof of Evidence and carried out a full site survey, incorporating views and footprint analysis and also produced a 3D computer generated model in order to successfully demonstrate the harm of the schemes. The Inspector agreed with our evidence and the appeals were dismissed.
