DHA hosted an exhibition stand within the market place of the Kent Housing Group Seminar, held at the Ashford International Hotel on the 29th September.
Our stand presented the results of the Landholdings Review which DHA completed on behalf of Ashford Borough Council. The 8 phase study assessed the development potential of the entire Ashford Borough Council owned land portfolio, a total of over 1000 hectares of land across 745 sites. Potential was identified for over 930 residential units in addition to mixed use and commercial opportunities. To date planning permission has been granted for 168 residential units over 25 sites, with twenty further sites being considered. The Study is included as a Case Study within the Kent and Medway Housing Strategy as an example of good practice.
The conference was well attended and the need for Local Authorities to gain an understanding of the extent and value of their landholdings was mentioned in a number of talks and seminars. After visiting our stand Henry Cleary OBE, the Deputy Director of the Department for Communities and Local Government, mentioned within his Keynote speech the good work which had been undertaken in Ashford in this respect.
