50 New Houses for Maidstone at Oakwood Park
Residential redevelopment of former college land – Oakwood Campus, Maidstone
Residential redevelopment of former college land – Oakwood Campus, Maidstone
DHA Planning has successfully obtained permission in outline for the redevelopment of the Hadlow College former Horticultural Unit at Oakwood Park, Maidstone for housing. The site is located within the education campus at Oakwood and formed part of the educational facilities here. DHA had to address the potential loss of community facilities and deal with site contamination, ecology, drainage and access difficulties before permission could be granted.
In particular detailed consideration needed to be given to the improvement of local access with a detailed junction design for the campus access onto the A26, Tonbridge Road. In this DHA Planning was assisted by DHA Transport who redesigned the junction to the satisfaction of Kent Highway Services.
The site is 1.02 ha in extent and an illustrative layout for the residential scheme was prepared by DHA Urban Design which was recognised by the Borough Council as providing for aquality design for up to 50 dwellings.
