This major relocation will secure the future of the company’s haulage contracts with their main customers such as Morrisons and Knauf who operate out of Kemsley.

The proposal submitted by DHA involved the provision of a 14,000 sq ft 2-storey warehouse building with offices and service bay and included a yard with parking for the company’s lorry fleet of 118 commercial vehicle spaces and 108 car spaces on a site of 2.2ha.

DHA prepared and co-ordinated the planning submissions which involved detailed consideration of visual impact, highway issues, drainage, landscaping, noise, lighting, flooding, biodiversity and archaeology.  The site is approved for industrial and warehousing uses but DHA had to resolve significant issues of sustainable drainage with the Environment Agency before permission could be issued.  In particular DHA had to accommodate SUDS features within the site without the loss of essential parking and manoeuvring for commercial vehicles.  DHA Transport also had to provide highway support as the site is accessed onto the Sittingbourne Northern Relief Road.

DHA is now preparing details to address the planning conditions as construction on the site is intended to commence as soon as possible.  The new depot is intended to open by 2012.
